hello, it’s nice that you tuned into thuskochtour again. today i got a motive cake for you that i made as a birthday present for a friend’s grandchild. in this video i won’t show you how to make the actual cake and buttercream but you can find everything on my blog: otherwise the video would be too long! so let’s start! the cake is for a little boy so i decided for an excavator appropriate to his age. first of all i prepared the excavator a few days ahead and let it become hard. therefore i took some modelling clay and first cut out the sides, the roof, the front and back side of the excavator. i used dough sticks of 3mm as a help. this way the clay becomes equally thick. then modell the crane, shovel and the tyres. after i prepared all of the pieces, i will glue them together.
in order to make the crane more stable, fix it with some tooth picks and then glue it on. now modell the construction side signs and decorations. after that prepare the bricks. therefore i used 3 different shades of red. roll out the modelling clay thinly, cut it into small rectangulars and let them get hard. for the cake i already prepared 2 cake bases. i made a simple light sponge cake and a chocolate sponge cake with a diameter of 24cm. i first straightened the cakes and cut them in equally sized pieces. do not throw away the excess, we will need it later for soil. then first take the dark dough, stamp out 4 rings and one small circle.
repeat the process for all of the dark and light cake pieces. then take the dark cake rings, put them on a kappa plate and compose it in turns with the light dough. cover the inside with buttercream in ordert o make the rings stick together. if the first cake base is a bit uneven straighten it out. drizzle a bit of apple juice onto the cake base and coat it with buttercream. for the second base first take the light cake ring, put it on the first cake base, coat it with buttercream on the inside and put the dark cake ring inside and repeat the process until the whole cake is done. let the cake then cool down for 15min. now that the cake is cooled, coat it with ganache. then put the cake into the fridge for another hour.
after that cover the cake with grey fondant. now i prepare the other decorations. here i took yellow fondant, rolled it out and cut out a ribbon. small advice: to know how long the ribbon needs to be, i measured the cake with a measuring tape and then rolled out the fondant. for the consruction side band stake black fondant, roll it out and cut out thin diagonal long lines. put the black bands onto the ribbon, cut it and glue it on with sugar glue. then take a rolling pin, wrap the ribbon around it, so it is easier to put it on the cake. coat the lower part of the cake with sugar glue and fix the ribbon. then glue on the bricks with royal icing.
now i took a cakeboard that is a bit bigger than the cake and will cover it with grey fondant. then coat the cakeboard with some royal icing and put the cake on it. to make the cakeboard look like a street make the middle line of the street with white fondant. then put the excavator and the caps onto the cake. finally use the cake leftovers as soil and make the number and glue it on. now the excavator cake is ready, i hope you had fun watching this video and until next time bye<3<3<3
